We Americans are passionate about our ideas. The left is passionate about being the left, and the right is passionate about being the right. No one thinks the independents and moderates are passionate. But we are. And we need a voice. Our ability to challenge dogma, see nuance, and look for new solutions should not be cause for our silence. Quite the contrary.

The vast majority of literary fiction published today advances the worldview of the progressive left in some way. And that is wonderful. Fiction should not shy away from politics. The problem is that very few contemporary voices in fiction have even mildly poked fun at—let alone challenged—that view, leaving the literary conversation rather one sided.

My book Hate Hunters follows a group of modern day Don Quixotes as they battle racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, colonialism, and Islamophobia. They fight valiantly, get into some pretty absurd situations, and learn things about themselves and the world that raise more questions than answers.

My goal with the book is to make readers laugh at exaggerated but relatable features of modern life, feel excitement as the characters get into hair-raising circumstances, contemplate where our current ideas about race and identity might be leading us, and commune in our shared humanity. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
